We Finally Finished Our Basement Ceiling!

This was 5 years in the making, finally finishing our basement ceiling. We decided to drywall it instead of just painting it black, which many people tend to do. I am very happy with the results!

This is the bare ceiling, and we had it prepared for drywall by adding 6 inch can lights, found here.

We then decided on ceiling insulation, for sound dampening. This is the product we used. But there are a lot of sound blocking mineral wool insulation.

We decided on using 5/8″ drywall because we felt it’s better for sound dampening on a ceiling vs 1/2″. The contractors tried to sneak in 1/2″ because it is easier to work with and lighter, make sure you are on top of your contractor!!

Taping and mudding

The problem stairwell.

Almost done!! This took many many coats of paint for the ceiling. We used Shermin Williams ceiling paint.
For the walls, we used Behr Marquee Diamonds Therapy

All done!! Still working on the stairwell, thinking of doing a feature wall going down the stairs. Always a work in progress!
